NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer conducted a oceanographic research and seafloor feature detection during the EX1006 (Hawaii to US West Coast transit to San Francisco, CA, Alameda drydock) in North Pacific Ocean from October 19, 2010 to October 29, 2010. "This cruise offers the opportunity to take steps towards exploring one of many 'sticks.' Transits between each 'box' are truly exploration cruises and offer further exploration opportunities, such as the chance to examine oceanographic conditions over great distances or detect new seafloor features. Over 95% of the ocean remains unexplored. With so much remaining to be mapped and discovered, Okeanos Explorer conducts operational exploration transits, leveraging the opportunity to acquire data and information"--Cruise home page.
